The Shiller Preyar Law Offices have been working hard all summer long, and this September brought us some hard-won victories. Read on for a glimpse at two cases we recently settled.
On December 8, 2010, Oak Lawn resident Charles Petrishe was tasered then shot multiple times by officers of the Oak Lawn Police Department. The Shiller Preyar Law Offices represented the Petrishe family in their case against the officers involved, Advocate Christ Hospital and The Village of Oak Lawn. The Petrishes alleged that two Oak Lawn officers caused multiple constitutional violations—including the use of excessive force—when responding to a 911 call about a domestic disturbance involving Charles Petrishe. On September 23, 2014, we were able to reach a settlement agreement with the defendants for $3 million.
On May 20, 2008, our plaintiff MW was the unfortunate victim of repeated physical and sexual assaults by inmates of the Cook County Department of Corrections. MW—who was a minor at the time of the incident—brought suit against Cook County, it's agencies and officials involved alleging that these attacks took place over a three day period when MW was wrongfully held at CCDC because of the gross negligence and reckless indifference of the Defendants. The Shiller Preyar Law Offices represented MW, and we settled with the defendants for $135,000 on September 24, 2014.
Shiller Preyar is always working to secure justice for those we represent. Unfortunately, they are often facing city officers, officials, bureaus and entire institutions whose power can seem daunting and overwhelming. We never tire of giving our clients the time and energy they deserve, and settlements like these two show that hard work not only pays off, but gives peace of mind as well.
