Mary joined the Shiller Preyar Law Offices in September of 2010. Her practice focuses almost exclusively on police misconduct litigation, including cases involving police brutality, malicious prosecutions, and unlawful arrests. Mary has also participated in litigating cases involving personal injury claims, and represented criminal defendants against federal and state charges. 

As an associate attorney at Shiller Preyar Law Offices, Mary has negotiated settlements on behalf of her clients in police misconduct cases against the City of Chicago, Cook County, and several suburban municipalities.  She has also tried cases to verdict in front of juries and federal and state court judges and argued dozens of motion hearings.  Prior to joining Shiller Preyar Law Offices, Mary was a law clerk at the Civil Rights Center in Chicago, where she gained invaluable experience by assisting in the litigation of over 50 civil rights and criminal cases.  

Mary obtained her law degree from The John Marshall Law School.  In law school, Mary competed in two national appellate advocacy competitions, including finishing as a Semifinalist team at the Williams Institute Moot Court Competition in 2009.  Mary also worked as a research assistant for Professor Cynthia Bond and Professor Joanne Hodge, researching legal issues in international human rights law and gender discrimination.  She received her B.A. from Smith College in 2002.

Born and raised in Chicago, Mary’s interests include traveling, sports, and being active in the gay and lesbian legal community of Chicago.   Mary prides herself on working hard and compassionately for her clients from the moment she first meets them until their case is resolved.
