Chicago native, April D. Preyar, is a skilled criminal defense attorney. Preyar received her undergraduate degree in both English and Spanish from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She earned her law degree from George Washington University Law School in Washington, D.C., where she interned with the D.C. Public Defender’s Office.
Preyar has been licensed to practice in the State of Illinois since 1999. Initially, Preyar worked as an associate with Bobby Ware & Associates, doing municipal, real estate, and eminent domain work.
A history of community involvement
Since 2000, Preyar has litigated hundreds of misdemeanor and felony cases. Her criminal defense career began at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender. During her time in public service, Preyar instituted training programs for new attorneys. She has since taught legal courses to practitioners and law students at the Chicago Bar Association and the University of Chicago Mandel Legal Clinic.
In the fall of 2009, Preyar joined forces with Brendan Shiller to create the Shiller*Preyar Law Offices.
In addition to being a criminal defense attorney, Preyar has published two poetry books, and is active in the community. She is the executive Director of the Lil’ S.I.S. Expo, and is active in Top Ladies of Distinction.
